I’ll admit… I haven’t always been a fan of shorts. (I even shared the real reason in this blog post!) But I found this dressy blush pair by Alice + Olivia at a secondhand shop and fell in love with the fit. So, let’s talk about why high-waisted shorts are so figure-flattering and how to style them in a classy way.

Figure-Flattering Shorts
First of all, high-waisted anything is going to be more flattering than bottoms that sit lower on the hips. Why? Because high-waisted shorts, skirts and pants highlight the waist, creating that hourglass figure. Not only that, but they also make it easier to tuck in tops, which also accentuates the waist.
Finding The Perfect Pair
If you’re looking to wear shorts to work, brunch or another fancier event, there are a couple things to keep in mind. You’ll want to find a pair that’s made of a dressy fabric like polyester. (I also LOVE polyester because it doesn’t wrinkle easily.) You’ll want to check the length too. Remember the rule from elementary school that skirts should go at least to your fingertips? The same rule applies when creating dressy outfits with high-waisted shorts. Don’t be that girl in short shorts in a business meeting. Another thing to look for is pleating (or folds) like my pair has in the front. Pleats make shorts look more high-end.
How to Style High-Waisted Shorts
Once you’ve found the perfect pair, the rest is easy! I created a sweet, Parisian look by pairing the shorts with a striped tee from Stella & Dot. You also can’t go wrong when you add feminine heels, delicate jewelry and a classic bag. This is an outfit I’d wear to a bridal/baby shower, to the office or to a style session.
