I discovered Birchbox thanks to Kate, my roommate who knows all about my obsession with testing new beauty products. While living in New York City last summer, she went to the Birchbox store in Soho. I think almost instantly, she knew I’d love it.
So, what is it?
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription — think of it like a magazine subscription. Each month, you pay $10 to get an adorably decorated box filled with five beauty samples.
Like I mentioned, I love trying new products, but honestly, buying full-sized ones all the time gets expensive. That’s when Birchbox steps in. It allows me to sample trending products before I commit to buying the full-sized versions. To a beauty-addict like me, that’s a dream come true.
One thing I love about this service is it’s customizable. Not only did I complete a profile to let the Birchbox team know what types of products I’m most interested in (for example, I treasure makeup samples but will never use nail polish), I also often receive emails that let me choose one of the samples in my box or let me select a themed box, like April’s “Mad Men”-inspired New York Box.
Here’s what’s inside this month (samples from left to right):
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel | Beauty Protector Protect & Oil | Cargo Swimmables Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos | Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion | Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Blueberry
Pretty cool, huh? I’ve been getting a monthly box in the mail since January, and it still amazes me how many products I’ve accumulated during that time. Another thing to note is you can always choose not to get a box, so when you feel you need to save $10 for a month (I’m actually skipping next month with my move to NYC coming up), it’s no problem.
If you enjoy new beauty products as much as me, you should consider joining the Birchbox bandwagon. To subscribe to Birchbox now, click here. Also, let me know which products from this month’s Birchbox you want me to review by leaving a comment or shooting me a quick email.
